Low Vision Lunch and Learn Sessions Announced

The budding partnership between the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences (DOVS) and Lighthouse Guild Vision Rehabilitation Network continues its strong start, with the announcement of a series of Low Vision Lunch and Learn Sessions.

All DOVS providers, technicians, residents, students, schedulers and supporting staff are invited and encouraged to attend these sessions. The sessions aim to create more awareness within our own department and clinics about the visually impaired, how to interact with the visually impaired in our clinics, and what low vision services are available in our community. DOVS will host two sessions each year for the next five years as part of the partnership with the Lighthouse Guild.

The Lighthouse Guild is a nationally renowned non-profit vision and healthcare organization based in Manhattan. The organization recently launched a new initiative that provides financial support and educational resources to university ophthalmology departments. The UW Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences is one of five ophthalmology departments in the nation to be chosen for this initiative. Sanbrita Mondal, OD, and Melanie Schmitt, MD, are the DOVS co-directors of the Lighthouse Guild Network partnership.
