2021 Multiphasic Phacoemulsification Course

In a return to regularly scheduled education programming that was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences (DOVS) hosted the 2021 Multiphasic Phacoemulsification Course on August 20-21 at the Health Sciences Learning Center on the UW-Madison campus.

41 Ophthalmology residents and 23 faculty from DOVS and other programs, including the Medical College of Wisconsin and University of Iowa attended the event, including veterinary ophthalmology residents from UW, University of California-Davis and Eye Care for Animals.

The course began on Friday afternoon with fundamental and advanced lectures. First-year residents received a single curriculum of lectures, with the goal to learn the basic steps of phacoemulsification, while second and third-year residents are provided in alternate years with a curriculum emphasizing complications, style and nuances of cataract surgery.
