Listening and Learning

Ms. Jeffords came to our clinics with decreased vision in both eyes that had become even more blurry over time. She elected to have cataract surgery in both eyes sequentially with Dr. Heather Potter this fall. Ms. Jeffords now can see a clearer, sharper view of the world around her. Post-operatively, she enjoys reading for longer periods of time, experiencing the richness of colors and feels much more confident driving at night, among other improvements.

“As important as her surgical skills are, her professional and personal skills stand out,” says Jeffords of Dr. Potter. “She is an excellent listener. My requests were heard, she guided my choices and delivered on her promise to keep me informed of her procedures while she operated.”

As a result of Dr. Potter’s listening and understanding of her needs, Ms. Jeffords was able to remain calm and respond to Dr. Potter throughout the surgeries. The outcomes were successful and easy surgical procedures for everyone involved.

Jeffords adds, “She took the time to personally phone me the evening after the surgery to make sure I was doing well – even when I hung up on her the first time because I did not recognize her telephone number!”

Our commitment as a Department, as well as a member of UW Health, to excellent patient experiences is demonstrated time and again with stories like this and we are proud of our dedicated team of doctors that works tirelessly to save sight.
