On Saturday, September 16, 2025 the University of Wisconsin Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences proudly hosted the 25th Annual Current Concepts in Eye Care continuing education event. Welcoming optometrists and eye care professionals from across Wisconsin, the program offered a full day of cutting-edge clinical insights and a celebration of a quarter-century of educational excellence.
Dr. Janet Cushing, an optometrist with UW Health, opened the event with a warm welcome and words of appreciation for attendees’ dedication to advancing patient care. “We commend you on your commitment to providing quality eye care,” she said, “and we’re thrilled to see you in person for this milestone program.”
The day featured 12 expert presenters, all clinical providers and faculty members from the UW School of Medicine and Public Health. Topics ranged from ocular toxicities and dry eye treatments to artificial intelligence in imaging, refractive surgery advances, and the growing prevalence of myopia. Attendees also explored innovations in scleral lens fitting, diabetic eye disease management, and long-term glaucoma care.
Breaks and lunch provided opportunities for networking and reflection, while a brief survey offered attendees a chance to help shape future programming.
The event concluded with heartfelt thanks and a look ahead. “We hope today sparked meaningful conversations and provided valuable insights,” said Dr. Cushing. “Stay tuned for details on next year’s event—and thank you again for being part of this special day.”
