Making a Difference
Philanthropic gifts enable the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences to continue to conduct high-quality research, and to provide state-of-the-art clinical care and world-class training for tomorrow’s leaders in eye care and vision research. Although most of our department teaching and research activities are supported by external research grants and by the University, philanthropic gifts from patients, families, alumni, faculty and other friends provide the extra margin essential for excellence.
By giving a philanthropic gift to any part of the department’s mission at one of the leadership-giving levels detailed here, you become a member of the Davis Society. Your gifts can:
• Enable faculty and trainees to conduct promising pilot research projects, which may provide the proof-of-principal needed to obtain larger extramural grants
• Enrich the trainee learning environment with essential textbooks, and high-tech learning tools
• Outfit a research laboratory with key supplies or specialized equipment to allow pursuit of new developments in ongoing research
Beyond strengthening the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences’ position as a leader in the study and treatment of blinding diseases, many donors give to:
- Recognize beloved family members or other special people in their lives
- Honor respected physicians or researchers
- Thank a faculty or staff member for an outstanding education
