Medical Retina and Uveitis Fellowship

The University of Wisconsin Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences offers a one-year fellowship program that provides a balanced and extensive educational experience in the medical aspects of retinal disease and uveitis. This exciting new fellowship offers expertise in sub-specialty care and clinical training in both uveitis (e.g. diagnosis and management of inflammatory ocular conditions with an emphasis on immunosuppressive therapies) and medical retina (e.g. inherited retinal dystrophies, multimodal retinal imaging, conducting clinical trials). Limited surgical privileges (uveitic cataract skill development) may be considered based on fellow interest and program capacity.

As a clinical trial sub-investigator, the fellow will contribute to the advancement of clinical research capacities on projects stemming from, but not limited to the Wisconsin Ocular Inflammatory Disease Registry, Inherited Retinal Disease Registry, WAIVS and other retina and uveitis services. In addition to clinical and research contributions, the fellow will engage in the diversification of educational training offerings for resident and medical students within the field of uveitis/medical retina education through case conferences, journal clubs, basic science lectures and other teaching activities.

The fellow’s tentative schedule will include three days focused on medical retina (with dedicated IRD clinic time), one day focused on uveitis, a half-day fellow clinic and a half-day of research each week.

This AUPO FCC compliant program follows medical retina program requirements, with a supportive concentration based on content of the AUPO FCC uveitis program requirements.
