The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences is one of the top academic departments of ophthalmology nationally. We provide outstanding patient care, support researchers in a variety of vision science disciplines and educate a wide variety of ophthalmic and non-ophthalmic professionals and the lay public.

As an integral part of an academic medical center, nationally and internationally renowned ophthalmologists in all subspecialties provide cutting-edge patient care. The department serves patients from across Wisconsin and in northern Illinois with services provided at outreach clinics.

Basic science researchers in epidemiology, glaucoma, ocular oncology and retinal disease collaborate with clinicians across all disciplines. The Fundus Photograph Reading Center and the Clinical Trials Research Unit provide opportunities for breakthrough research that is transformational to patient care.
