Clinical Care

Our Oculofacial Plastic Surgery team treats a wide range of periocular conditions, including eyelid ptosis, thyroid eye disease, periocular skin cancer, orbital tumors, congenital eyelid and orbit abnormalities, orbital fractures, and epiphora. We also address cosmetic concerns of the eyes and face. Due to the complexity of these conditions, our surgeons collaborate closely with specialists from dermatology, oncology, rheumatology, and other fields to provide comprehensive and coordinated care.

Advancements in thyroid eye disease treatment, such as the FDA-approved Teprotumumab and new therapies under trial like batoclimab, are changing the landscape of care. Our surgeons also perform intricate reconstructive surgeries, such as post-Mohs surgery for skin cancer, where creativity and precision are key to restoring function and aesthetics.

One of my favorite types of surgeries to perform is reconstruction following Mohs surgery for skin cancer — it requires lots of creativity, and every case is different.

Research

Our faculty are deeply involved in advancing the field through research. We participate in clinical trials, including the ongoing GO-1 trial for batoclimab in thyroid eye disease, and explore innovative treatments for periocular cancers and orbital diseases. Our research efforts drive new discoveries and translate directly into improved patient care.

Education

As educators, we are dedicated to shaping the future of oculofacial plastic surgery. Our residents benefit from hands-on experience through our essential oculoplastics course, with the next session scheduled for January 25, 2025. Additionally, our faculty are active in national and international oculoplastic societies, regularly presenting at major conferences and contributing to the global development of the specialty.
