Cat Burkat, MD, FACS, Named to Minority Ophthalmology Mentoring Program

Cat Burkat, MD, FACS, professor, will represent the UW-Madison Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences on the Minority Ophthalmology Mentoring (MOM) committee. The MOM program is a partnership between the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) and Association of University Professors of Ophthalmology (AUPO).

The program was created to attract underrepresented minorities to a career in ophthalmology. Dr. Burkat and fellow mentors will work to support students’ career development, demonstrate how ophthalmologists contribute to the healthcare community, assist students who are interested in shadowing the department, and create networking and mentoring opportunities.

Pre-med and medical students can expect to meet with enthusiastic ophthalmologists who can support career development, see why ophthalmologists enjoy fulfilling careers, and discover how ophthalmologists contribute to healthcare by preventing vision loss from diseases.

DOVS is thrilled to have an enthusiastic champion in Dr. Burkat to represent the department in this important initiative.
