Andrew Thliveris, MD, PhD is professor emeritus with the UW Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. Dr. Thliveris earned a PhD in Molecular and Cell Biology from the University of Arizona. He then completed his Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of Utah School of Medicine in 1994. After an internship at the University of Utah, he completed his ophthalmology residency at the UW Hospitals and Clinics, followed by a postdoctoral research fellowship. Dr. Thliveris the faculty at UW-Madison in 2000, specializing in comprehensive ophthalmology and cataract surgery. During his tenure, he held many important leadership roles including: Veterans Affairs Hospital service chief; vice chair of resident education; residency director; and co-director of the department’s cataract extraction phacoemulsification course. Dr. Thliveris retired in September 2023, after serving 28 years with the department.
