- State-of-the art Surgical Skills Training Facility – Providing residents and clinical fellows extensive hands-on experience with a range of conditions, from cataracts, glaucoma, dry eye, and diabetic eye disease
- Phacoemulsification Course – Attracting ophthalmology and veterinary residents from institutions across the Midwest. Considered the longest running course of its kind in the country, attendees learn all aspects cataract extraction in this a three-year, progressive course that includes both lectures and wet lab practice.
- Innovative Resident Curricula – Providing specialized training in open globe trauma and extracapsular cataract surgery.
Outreach
Our comprehensive ophthalmologists are deeply dedicated to serving a diverse patient population locally and globally through a variety of outreach activities.
- Right to Sight and Saturday Clinics – In collaboration with Combat Blindness International, we provide free eye exams and diabetic screenings to underinsured or uninsured Dane County residents.
- Inclusive Care Access – We deliver essential eye care to veterans and patients in correctional facilities, ensuring everyone gets the care they need.
- Athlete Vision Testing – In collaboration with UW—Madison Athletics, we screen student athletes and educate trainers on sports-related eye injuries.
- HOPE program- We inspire the next generation of eye care providers through a hands-on workshop for high school students interested in the health professions.
- Patient Advocacy – Our faculty advocate for equitable eye care at both the state and national levels.
- Global Fieldwork – Our fellows, faculty, and alumni participate in two-week rotations at partner sites in India and the Philippines — bringing vision care and glasses to thousands of patients worldwide.
