The University of Wisconsin (UW) School of Medicine and Public Health and the Medical College of Wisconsin proudly partnered on June 12 at the annual Wisconsin Ophthalmology Research Day (WORD). The event featured research presentations and posters from medical students, residents, clinical fellows, research graduate students, and post-doctoral trainees. A global partner research hour occurred before the larger symposium.
A big shout out to all our podium presenters: Colin Froines, MD (PGY2 Resident), Jackson Korger, MD (PGY4 Resident), Claire Hermsen, MD (PGY3 Resident), Whitney Stevens-Sostre, PhD (Postdoctoral Researcher, Howard Hughes Medical Institute Hanna Gray Fellow), Tyler Etheridge, MD (Vitreoretinal Fellow), Britney Naolhu (UW Medical Student), Thomas Emmet, MD (PGY3 Resident), and Caroline Hyun Sue Kim, MD (PGY2 Resident).
In all, 59 posters highlighted diverse topics in basic and clinical research that investigated various ocular diseases, patient care approaches, and innovative methodologies and techniques. Out of the total, 30 were from the UW learners and trainees and 2 from our partnering institutions in the Philippines: the University of Santa Tomas Hospital and Cardinal Santos Medical Center.
We extend a special congratulations to our Best Presentation Award winners: Rishika Joshi (best medical student poster presentation); Britney Naolhu (best medical student podium research presentation); Dr. Whitney Stevens-Sostre (best graduation student/postdoctoral trainee podium research presentation); and Dr. Caroline Hyun Sue Kim (best resident podium research presentation).
