World Glaucoma Week: March 11-17, 2018

Glaucoma is the leading cause of global irreversible blindness. It is estimated that 60 million people worldwide have glaucoma, and this number is expected to increase to over 111 million by 2040. The best way to prevent glaucoma from stealingyour sight is to schedule a comprehensive eye examination. If your ophthalmologist or optometrist finds you have glaucoma, a course of treatment can begin immediately to stop your vision loss.

The World Glaucoma Association and the World Glaucoma Patient Association have again collaborated to sponsor World Glaucoma Week, which is March 11 – 17 this year. World Glaucoma Week is a series of activities around the globe that promotes regular eye exams for early glaucoma detection. These activities, which range from lectures to screenings to awareness walks, involve ophthalmologists, optometrists and other eye care workers in hospitals, universities, clinics and private practices. Events also include many private individuals, especially those with glaucoma or with family members with glaucoma.

The list of 2018 World Glaucoma Week events can be found here. Eye care professionals can register and submit activities as well. Support World Glaucoma Week by using the Facebook Frame on your profile picture and by using #glaucomaweek in relevant social media posts.
